We are going to make this:
...

First make two images.
(Warning: I tried many times with spray sizes 512x512 and it doesn't work I think the file size is too big. But 256x256 works.)

...               ...
A Close Up Image(This should be a .tga)   And   A Far Away Image(This Should be a .dds)

  • Now save you Far Away Image as a .dds you will need NVIDIA Plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop which you can find here.
    http://developer.nvidia.com/object/photoshop_dds_plugins.html
    ...
  • Use the drop down menu and click DXT5 (note: Do NOT check DXT5_NM)
  • Now just click save you don't need to mess with anything else.
    ...
  • Name it something you can remember and in a place you can remember.
  • Open it up in DirectX Texture Tool. Which you can find here:  http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/details.aspx?FamilyID=24a541d6-0486-4453-8641...
    ...
  • Now make sure it is at the Largest Mip Level (note: You can check this by press Page Up until it doesn't get any bigger.)
    ...
  • Now open you Close Up Image onto the Largest Mip Level by click "Open Onto This Surface..."
    ...
  • If you press Page Down the image should change to the old image and should be smaller and when you Page Up the image should change to the new Image and Get bigger. Now Save it.
  • Now Open Quick & Dirty Bloodlines Tools v3.9a which you can download here: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/vtmb/download_6152426.html

    ...
  • Go over to Texture Tools and click open file and open your new .dds now the only button you can click is the Convert DDS to VTF and Click that and your done.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and I am working on a transparent spray

Fantastic effect and tutorial. It worked great.

I use transparent backgrounds and to do that I save my closeup as a ".png" instead of a ".tga".

Well...... it's a nude chested Zoey behind a hole in the wall that when you get closer becomes a censored Zoey behind a hole in the wall... kinda a tease. I don't know if it would be appropriate here.  I'll post it if you say it's ok but I'm not sure how to make a gif from the game though.

Once I knew how to do this it only takes about 3 minutes to make the transforming image with the software, very fun to do and many fun possibilities.

You could post it in left 4 dead downloads, just add 'adults only spray' to the description. lol I'm sure a lot of people would like to have that!

It should work in Left 4 dead 2, mine does. All these steps apply to L4D2 sprays. You must be skipping something somewhere.
